China CITIC Private Bank
The inspiration for this project came from the 1962 Enzo Mari design of a letter opener, somewhat reminiscent of a Möbius strip. It is reinterpreted here in the form of the reception counter, a sinuous component of the interior design that has an emotional appeal to the bank’s HNW clients.
The 6,000 square foot butterfly shaped site, is highly constricted and angular: the larger spaces form the ‘wings’, one of which became the back office, the other for meeting clients; a central section connecting the two sides was the natural location for the reception area and café.
To ensure a very high degree of privacy, the six cocoon-like meeting rooms are totally free-standing, each one accessorised with Chinese artwork and artifacts to create a friendlier, less institutional atmosphere.
