Community
Supporting the community has always been one of our core objectives. We see great value in helping those in need and returning to the community some of the goodwill that has made Hong Kong so successful.
Every year since 1991 we have held a Charity Auction in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations that mark the beginning of the new lunar calendar. After a company lunch, we return to the office and hold this spirited event during which our staff are able to bid on items that have been donated by the contractors, vendors and service providers we have worked with during the previous year – and each year the Company matches the amount raised and donates the entire proceeds to a number of local charities, many of which are shown below.
We have directly supported or sponsored a number of causes which primarily assist with health and welfare programs but also support local sport and cultural pursuits – and we have provided financial support during global crises on an ad hoc basis.
Our commitment to a more just society and quality of life begins at work.

The Family Council launched the Family Friendly Award scheme to promote the adoption of family friendly policies. Should career success be no more than a guilty pleasure, pursued at the expense of domestic happiness, or is there a balance between work and play? We think so and we are proud to announce that we have received a Distinguished Family-Friendly Employers Award every year since the scheme was launched, demonstrating "impressive practices in the implementation of family-friendly employment policies and in the promotion of family core values."

The idea for The Community Chest began toward the end of the 1960s, as many international agencies began to leave, creating a gap in the social welfare system. Subsequently, a group of community leaders came up with the idea of a “community fund” to raise money on behalf of diverse community support charities, thus eliminating competition in their fund-raising efforts and providing them with the resources to focus on service delivery. Richards Basmajian have supported the Hong Kong Community Chest since 1991.

Emerging from the local Tin Sui Wai community, The Pandas are a fairly new rugby team, just over decade old, developed to encourage a greater sense of belonging through participation in team sports. The team was launched in 2011 with players mainly hailing from Tin Shui Wai, in the New Territories, and Richards Basmajian have been one of their key sponsors from the outset. Their inaugural season was a massive success – they won every game played. The Club now has three mens’ teams and one women’s team.

Mother's Choice is a local charity serving pregnant teenagers in Hong Kong. The charity gives hope to these vulnerable girls by providing a temporary home during their pregnancies thereby allowing them to carry their babies to term, and arranging for the children to be adopted by a local or overseas family. We have supported Mother's Choice since 1991 by volunteering, by providing pro-bono design of their baby care facility on Bowen Road and also by giving direct financial support.
