SCAA Bowling Centre

This project’s success was due in large part to careful phasing that allowed at least 20 bowling lanes, out of 60 in total, to remain open for business and tournament play at all times. The renovation also required close coordination between the Client and Brunswick, who supplied new state-of-the-art lanes, seating, scoring machines and ancillary furniture.
In an effort to make the project as environmentally friendly as possible, the decision was made early on to re-use, rather than discard, the old, solid timber lanes, as flooring for the new cafe.
Instead of winding up in a landfill, the refinished timber has been given a new lease of life, neatly contrasting with the open ceiling and clean, bright new dining furniture.
Even old bowling pins were creatively incorporated into the design. Several hundred were re-used to form a feature-wall backdrop in the private dining room, reminiscent of a giant ‘ring toss’ game at a bygone county fair.
