Reed Smith Richards Butler
Based in the Central district of Hong Kong for more than twenty years, Reed Smith Richards Butler had outgrown their multi-floor premises by late 2018. The decision was made to relocate to Quarry Bay and an internal steering committee worked with us to oversee the planning, design and construction, with project managers from JLL.
The new premises occupies the 17F and part of 32F One Island East. Public-facing meeting spaces and fee-earners’ offices are at the 20,000 SF lower floor while accounting and other administrative staff are housed at the upper floor. The firm’s Social Hub is also located at 32F.
As these images show, one side of the gallery entrance to the new office mimics a library wall complete with faux books, finished, predominantly, in white but with a number of others in the firm’s corporate red – as well as individual “open book” light fixtures that complete this unusual feature.
A world apart from the workspace below, the Social Hub comprises a variety of low and high table seating options, banquettes, mother’s room, two large phone booths and a casual meeting room with lightweight, movable furniture so the room can be easily converted into a yoga / exercise studio.
In the corner with the best view of the setting sun a section of imitation, mosaic-tiled swimming pool offers staff another gathering place – complete with trompe l’oeil water.
